How do i put one pink streak in my hair?

I'm planning to put one pink streak in my hair, like avril lavigne has. I want to use atomic pink by special effects, but i'm not sure how to do this, and i don't want to mess up! i have medium length hair and i want the streak to be kinda under a layer so that you dont really see the colour at the root.

first, if your hair isn't platinum blonde already, you're going to have to bleach that streak if you want it hot pink. so make sure you buy a bleaching kit if you need it. they run for pretty cheap at Sally's or any other hair supply store. i think even walmart has them actually. you'll also need some tinfoil.

once you have everything ready, grab the piece of hair you want dyed. just take the underlayer piece, since that's what you want. then just follow the instructions on the bleach kit. (you'll basically end up painting it on your hair with the tinfoil blocking it from the rest of your hair). process times differs from bleach to bleach.

once that's done, you can apply the pink dye in the same way, just using clean tin foil obviously. again, follow the time instructions on the dye bottle.

take and put up all ur hair except for the part that u want to color..make sure its all secured tightly..then you will take ur hair and place that color on it ...try to get as close to the roots as u can but not on the surrounding color...then wrap ur hair in foil! take and fold it over ur hair and wait until ur time it up then pull the foil out of ur hair and wash it completely...after no more pink is coming out dry it...try not to let it touch the other hair or itll get a little pink too but if ur putting it under a layer itll be much better since u can hide all the imperfections!

if your hair is blond then you wont need to bleach it.

take the piece of hair from under that you want. tie up the rest so it doesn't get accidentally colerd and just apply the dye just like you would if you were dying your hair. its pretty easy.

If your hair is very light blonde you should be ok.. If not I recommend you bleach the strand you want to color.. After that pull the streak of hair out that you want to dye and put the pink on. Read the directions to see if you have to have wet/dry hair etc.. Then do the proper procedure. To avoid getting other parts of your hair pink I usually use Aluminon Foil%26lt;sp%26gt; to wrap the one strand and let it sit however long the directions say to leave it in.. I also have a pink streak in my hair and this is what I do.. Also I use Manic Panic b/c I find that it lasts a little longer than oher brands of crazy color =p
