I want to highlight my hair...?

I've never dyed my hair, and I don't want to spend a 100bucks getting it done. Do you recomend using at home products(such as stuff you buy from Wal-Mart)? If so what product do you recommend, will it look good(not tacky), and how do I do it?

I have straight, medium length brown hair, its thin, but I have a whole lot.

It's better if you do it the first time at a salon rather than yourself. And it'll probably be like 60 bucks.

highlighting your hair at home is VERY difficult. if you really have to do it from home, get a highlighting kit, test a strand first (incase your brown hair turns orange) and have a friend do it for you. you will have to use a cap and have your hair pulled through it. i have dark hair too, and the last time i tried to go blonde at home...i was more orange...then you have to buy that purple shampoo to keep your hair toned down off that brassy look. its just best to use a hairdresser. OR...go to a local beauty school they just work for tips!

hmmmm......u wont it to look good right well you are gonna have to spend money honey! just go to a professional hair stylist and get highlight in whatever part of the hair you want it!

i have done it at home. you can go buy a little kit. they have some (maybe around 7 dollars) you just mix it up and paint stripes on your hair and let it sit and wash it out. just make sure you read all the instructions.

Have a friend do it- they can see the back better than you can. Also, if it goes badly, you have someone to blame.

You can go to Walmart or any big drugstore and look at the aisles that have hair dye in them. There are actually kits that are made for highlighting hair. The kits are pretty good. I tried them years ago before I turned grey and decided to go have it done professionally, and only wish that $100 covered what I have done to my hair. But the kits are pretty good, they come with everything you need, except and extra pair of hands, so get a friend to help. You get the color you want to use as the highlight, a cap with holes, so you can pull through as much or as little hair that you want to color, a pick to pull through the hair, and a finishing rinse.

I had my husband do this with me, and we are talking klutz here, and if it worked for me, trust me, you can get it done. I had long hair back then and it came out great. I had red hair and did a blonde highlight and it was fine, and my hair was very curly. Now I have short hair and have it done professionally. Died red with highlights of blonde and black and it looks fantastic, but I live in NYC, so you don't want to know what it costs, probably more than you make in a week or two.

try using the garnier dyes. They have kits with highlighgting tool that make it super easy or just buy regular box dye adn use it or if u dont trust yourself to ask a frined to help you with it i've done that for some of my friends b4
